BIO
Dave Smith studied classical piano starting in the 6th grade. He found the bass in high school and fell in love with it. He studied jazz bass performance in college then spent years touring and recording with rock bands. Dave played with Grayson Hugh (gold record, Thelma Louise, Berklee faculty), The Nillaz (Warped tour), The Volunteers (High Times band of the month), as well as acts Neon Dynamite, Christina LaRocca, Ryan Martin, Black Chardonnay, Zack Smith Band, and so many more. Along the way Dave worked with great friends/musicians including John Cave (guitar Talib Kweli), Biscuit Rouse (drums Lauryn Hill), Adrian Crutchfield (sax Prince), Matt Katz-Bohen (keys Blondie), Brian Griffin (drums The Black Crows) Keith Robinson (drums Marcia Ball), Andee Blacksugar (guitar Peter Murphy), Steve Kortyka (sax Gaga/Bennett), Atiba Motta (drums Public Enemy) and many others. Dave has always been driven by songwriting and after his co-write with Blondie he started putting more energy into his singing. He now performs as Sweet the Banana in the very original party band Sweet N' Juicy. He loves it. He also loves producing other people's records out of his studio one of which, Jessa Campbell's The Saplings, won the silver medal at the Parents Choice awards.
